HARTLAND, NB: Day & Ross, a leading North American transportation and logistics company, has added new all-electric trucks to their fleet to support their sustainability efforts. “This investment is a critical step in our emission reduction strategy,” said Bill Doherty, CEO. “These electric trucks will help us evaluate how this technology performs within our supply chain, as well as how they will help us meet our long-term sustainability goals.”

These new zero-emission Lion6 commercial urban trucks from Lion Electric deliver the power, comfort, and modern technology expected by professional drivers. One all-electric truck can eliminate up to 100 tons of GHG per year. “With a range of up to 290 km, these electric trucks are a great fit for our Pickup & Delivery routes in the Montreal area based on the high density and traffic patterns,” said Matthew Sheen, Associate Vice President, Procurement & Operational Services. “With reduced emissions and reduced noise pollution, these trucks will be better for the communities where they operate.”

Along with these electric delivery vehicles, Day & Ross is planning on purchasing Class 8 electric shunt trucks and is currently conducting evaluation testing at their facilities. The company has already made Lithium Ion electric forklifts their standard for new facilities, including their state-of-the-art terminal in Moncton, which opened last year. Its impressive list of environmental features includes the largest net-metered solar installation in Atlantic Canada. Since then, Day & Ross has continued to bolster its facility infrastructure across the US and Canada to support growth, efficiency, and their sustainability efforts.

“As we plan and develop new terminals, we’re anticipating the impact of emerging technologies to ensure we’re well-positioned to support our future sustainability goals,” said Sheen. “On the road, we also employ a range of activities as part of our sustainability commitment, including route optimization, long-combination vehicles, telematics, and aerodynamics for our trucks and trailers.”

With these trucks, Day & Ross and Lion Electric are participating in “Run on Less – Electric challenge” a best-of-the-best demonstration that showcases advancements in freight efficiency in Canada & the US. A joint effort between the North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE) and Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), Run on Less demonstrates how efficiency technologies improve the bottom line for fleets and benefit the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
